New version Explanatory Notes on Essentially Derived Varieties
After four years of debate, the UPOV Council, adopted the new Explanatory Notes on Essentially Derived Varieties (EDV). These new notes replaced the version of 2017. In general terms, it can be said that the “umbrella” or scope of protection of the right of the initial variety has been increased.

Uniformity requirements acceptance of organic varieties of some vegetable and agricultural crops adjusted
From July 1, 2023, two new implementing directives for acceptance of some organically grown varieties of agricultural and vegetable crops entered into force in the EU. This makes it possible to submit organic varieties of some vegetable and agricultural crops with adapted uniformity requirements for admission to the Board for plant varieties.

Prolongation September 2023
This year, varieties registered in 2008, 2009 and 2015 can apply for prolongation. This also applies to all varieties of potato and sugar beet registered before 2015.

Applying for prolongation if there is a representative
Possibility to apply for prolongation (renewal of registration of a vegetable or agricultural variety) when there is a representative. This year, varieties registered in 2008, 2009 and 2015 can apply for prlongation. This also applies to all varieties of potato and sugar beet registered before 2015.
